Nokia to slash workforce in Pakistan / Afghanistan
Nokia-Siemens Pakistan will be slashing its workforce by 60% in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Nokia-Siemens major customers Telenor and Mobilink have almost entirely frozen work on new sites because of the economic condition.
Among the Pakistani GSM operators, Mobilink is probably the provider with the highest non-productive expenses and is said to be mulling a cutdown of its workforce.

Whats your source?
This is a blog. Not a press release by Nokia. Undercover Source :-)
this will increase unemployment in Pakistan telecommunication sector.
The Telecom Bubble has to burst. With revenues in Pak Rs and outpayments in USD, telecom sector will suffer because of the PKR-USD disparity. Pakistani market has room only for two to three GSM companies. So the next 2-3 years should see a few companies disappear. China Mobile is not going to disappear. So do your own mathematics. The telecom bubble has also made people used to unrealistic salaries and perks (say a million Rs or two a month, two cars, a house etc). The telecom companies will cut on manpower and the perks. So, we need to wake up and realize that we need to live within our means.
